Intergenerational Chess

Connect Across Generations

Let's bridge the gap between seniors and youth through the timeless game of chess, fostering meaningful connections and shared growth in every match.

What We Do

By organizing multigenerational chess events, we bring people together. What started between a high schooler and a senior living community chess club has become something much larger. After hosting multiple events, we have formed lasting relationships between people of all generations, and will continue to foster connection!

What You Can Do

We encourage you to host similar outreach events in your area in order to build relationships across generations and strengthen your community through a shared passion.  We can help!

The Mission

My mission for my Girl Scout Gold Award is to connect people of all generations through one shared passion: chess. Through casual, round-robin style events, participants can connect and form lasting relationships over the board.

My Inspiration

When it came time to consider pursuing my Girl Scout Gold Award, it was clear that I had to combine my love of chess with my appreciation for community.  Playing chess with my grandmother and knowing that she was a part of a chess club in her senior living community was just the right inspiration.  I inquired with her chess club leader to see if the club would be interested in playing intergenerational chess, and I was met with welcoming enthusiasm.

About Me

My name is Claire, and I am a senior in high school. I joined Girl Scouts when I was in kindergarten, and through it, found a passion for impacting my community.  When I started my Gold Award as a freshman, I knew I wanted to combine my love of chess with relationship building across generations.
